From Beth

I drove back from Indiana PA on Thursday and Friday. I arrived there August 18th with a van full of hand tools and scrap wood from my shop. My intent was to make as many stringed instruments as I could from my scrap, and learn about music in general (I knew nothing). I drove home with 20 instruments in the back of the van and the ability to read music. As I drove the irregularities in the road would cause the strings to pling. I was playing music from the act of driving. I would not say I am a luthier by any means, but when I arrived home I was able to see immediately what was wrong with each of the instruments I made before I left. I am more interested in the sculptural aspect than making the perfect sounding piece. But wouldn’t it be great to do both. I do see that this is the perfect teaching project and am trying to envision what that project will look like. Here are some of the instruments I made.IMG_0060 IMG_0062 IMG_0064 IMG_0065 IMG_0068 IMG_0069 IMG_0074 IMG_0078 IMG_0088 IMG_0099 IMG_0103 IMG_0134 IMG_0139 IMG_0140 Screen Shot 2014-12-15 at 2.37.23 PM
