I am having fun here at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The students in my beginning turning class are great, and I really look forward to witnessing their progress each week. The other visiting artist in my studio is Peter Parks. He is a graduate of RIT and an incredible 2D and 3D artist. It turns out he is also making instruments. His goal is different than mine as he is a really good musician already and is trying to create a perfect instrument for his style of play. I on the other hand am taking my first formal guitar lesson tonight and could not be more thrilled. We both get excited when we complete and instrument and string it up. It is amazing for me because he can play what I make. There have been many informal jam session of Peter and his other musician friends playing what we are making in the studio as I am making the next instrument. It is so inspiring to have music floating around me all day. Yesterday he helped me figure out a little part of a Tom Petty song on the dulcimer I made, and played it with me on his cigar box guitar, very exciting! Here are the instruments I have created so far. All the necks are made on the lathe.
