Turning Around America: Sanctuary

Our New Project, Sanctuary, Launches today!

It is mind boggling that just two years ago Turning Around America started. We could never have known then, all that we would have accomplished traveling to people instead of having them come to us. Mobile education has fewer limitations. Being free to travel we can bring a classroom to populations who might never have the access.

Our first project impacted over 3000 people ages 5 to 90, who all made an object out of wood. Many were touching tools for the first time. This was a powerful experience for them and for myself. Jenn created a web site that has been viewed by over 7000 people.   Our second project, took us to the village of Vera Cruz, in Guatemala, there we taught people how to use hand tools, and this was another successful and empowering project.

Back in the fall of 2010, we were simply two artists with an idea, and now we are two artists with vision. We asked ourselves, what if we could build mobile studios for multiple artists and travel together around the country teaching at schools, town centers, art centers, kids clubs, etcetera, imagine how many people we could reach with a rich art experience? Sanctuary is step one in the realization of this dream. We are designing a mobile studio that can be pulled by a vehicle. It will be a self-sustaining unit containing a composting toilet, thermal and solar electric, solar heat and a solid fuel stove. The only thing the artist would need to maintain this studio is fuel for the stove, and water.

Sanctuary is a prototype, which will be used by Turning Around America as a 2d art and media studio. We are very excited about the potential of this project. We need your help. The Sanctuary project is partnered under the umbrella of United States Artists and this means that all of your donations will be tax deductible. We are also offering wonderful unique art perks for those who donate, please go to this link and check them out.

Also, if you know any one who might be interested in this project please pass on this information to them.  The support you have given in the past made you a key collaborator in Turning Around America. Please work with us again to bring empowerment person-to-person, hand-to-hand to as many people as possible.

Thank you and Happy Holidays!
