JUNE 26, 2011

What a week! When we got back from Washington I jumped into work. I have started five projects. My biggest one is a tribute to my mother. I brick laid Bass wood till it was 4 feet tall. I am shaping it into a vessel form. I have always enjoyed the relationship between the vessel form and the human body. This piece will roll on wheels and contain a rod that drops down into the spout. The rod will have two hammers on it that will make sound when they hit either side of the interior of the vessel form. The sound will represent a human heart beat. Every one is working hard and I am really fascinated to see what is coming to life in the studio.

    Hello Beth,
I was curious as to how you shaped/smoothed the basswood out? I reconnected with your travel project this AM. What a cool thing you continue to do. I finished a intro wood carving class w/ Chris Pye at the Center for FC in Maine last week and LOVED it. I saved the Center’s newsletter w/ you in it because of the wood turning and your trip across the US teaching/sharing your art and work. Did you use power tools or chisels and gouges? All the best to you.
