MAY 9, 2011

This week I had some unexpected open time. I was invited back to Penland to work on my own projects and help some of the students I worked with six weeks ago. A few of them needed some help with turned elements in their work. It was the perfect place to be. My Mom had emergency surgery and it was touch and go. I spent part of the week hovering between going home and staying. She pulled through and is doing well. My emotions were up and down. Penland is a place that is nurturing and comforting. I was surrounded by new and old friends who took good care of me. For those who do not know, Penland is Craft school in the mountains of North Carolina. It is basically a small village of talented craftsman, students and teachers. This week was the last of an eight-week concentration. The school had an auction on Thursday and an instant gallery for everyone to share their work yesterday. The work everyone did was mind blowing. The food was great and plentiful. If you ever get a chance to go I give it my highest compliment- DREAMY!
