What a week it has been. I am getting a great response from woodturning guilds all over the country, as I book dates with them my route becomes more directed. Jenn is in Santa Fe working hard at maintaining the web site. I could not have done this project without her web talents and constant support(thanks Jenn). We are still adding and subtracting from the site so keep an eye on it.
I am going to be posting some pictures of projects I have been working on that have led up Turning Around America. I have always been interested in alternative spaces, trailers, houseboats, tree houses etc.. Like many people in our country today I am interested in the idea of simplification. If I limit my possessions will I be more free to do what I really want to? I live in a big house in Boston and often feel overwhelmed by its maintenance. Sometimes I work so hard at my business to keep my house going that I do not have time to spend in the house. I am going to change this situation. I have rented out my place as of Sept 1 and will be moving into a 12 by 12 space with a loft to begin the transition to the Chevy Express Van I will be living in for a year. I have already taken a large volume of possessions to the goodwill and sold things on Craig’s list. When I move from the studio into the van I will get rid of more. During my MFA program I had to write constantly, this is something I have not done for the last 27 years. It has been very cathartic for me, and I am hoping to work on a book of stories during my journey. I also want to be challenged to do small art works. While working on my masters I wanted to cut loose and make some big projects. Now that I have to store them I am seeing the wisdom of smaller objects. I am hoping to have the time on the road to think and work in my van living /workshop space.
